WHAT IS an ADVERBS :  an adverbs qualifies a verb , an adjective or another adverb .

an adverbs describes a verb, an adjective or another adverb.
it tells us how, where, when, how much and with that frequency.

adverb ,verb adjective , तथा  adverb के  अलावा  prepositions , conjunction , noun , pronoun तथा  sentence की  भी  विशेषता  [qualify] बताने  का  कार्य  करता  है  . 




जैसे  –  he walks [verb] slowly [adv.]
        – you run [verb] fast [adv.]

1. Adverbs of time

 Adverbs of time tells  us when action happened but also for how long and how often EX-  today ,tomorrow, yesterday, last-night , last-day, last-week, last-month, last-year, next-day, next-week, next-year , late, lately, now. just now, just, ago, daily, already, early, soon, the day after tomorrow , the day before yesterday, at present, presently, shortly, recently, immediately, instantly, before, since….etc.

  • He saw me yesterday.
  • I have seen her before.
  • She comes here daily.
  • Vikas will soon return.
  • Vinay arrived late.

 

2. Adverbs of place

Adverbs of place always tells us about the location where the action of the verb  is being carried out this is refers to distance EX- here,there,hither,thither,up,down,with,in,out,away,somewhere,everywhere,nowhere, without above ,below, far, near, backward, inside, outside, outdoors, indoors…..etc.

Sentences:

  • he was sitting here.
  • Mr.thakur lived here.
  • my brother-in-law is out.
  • there is air everywhere.
  • hope looks above, doubt looks below.
  • she looked up.
  • the horses galloped away.
  • walk backward.

 

 

3.Adverbs of number 

Adverbs of  number is used to show number of actions  EX-once, twice, thrice, again, seldom, always, never, thirdly,…etc.

sentences:

  • he has not seen her once.
  • the postman called again.
  • she seldom dances.
  • we always try to do our best.
  • every person often makes mistakes.
  • he frequently comes unprepared.


 

4.Adverbs of quantity 

Adverbs of quantity they are used to say how something happens and they usually end in ly- EX-
wholly, partially, fully, nearly, partly, entirely, fairly…etc.

  • he was too careless.
  • you are partly right .
  • he is rather busy.
  • i am nearly exhausted.
  • she is fully prepared.

 5.Adverbs of manner

Adverbs of manner are used to tell us the way or how something is done EX-
fast, hard, slowly, bravely, wisely, loudly, deaf, busy….etc.


  • the horse ran fast.
  • he works hard.
  • she walks slowly.
  • they thought bravely .
  •  my bestfriend behaved foolishly.

6. Adverbs of reason 

Adverbs of reason are words used to tell the reasons  behind the happening of a particular occurrence EX-hence, therefore, consequently.

  • she was therefore fined.
  • i therefore left school.
  • consequently she was sent to New- York.


7. Adverbs of affirmation or negation

Adverbs of affirmation or negation is a word which declares that something is true and negative statement, judgement. 
Example -not, surely, certainly, indeed, by no means ,not at all ,yes, no probably….etc.
  • she did not come after all.
  • surely he is right.
  • she is certainly alive.
  • i do not know her .
  • probably he will go.

8. interrogative Adverbs

Adverbs of interrogative Adverbs Why, where, how and ,when are placed at the beginning of a questions EX-when , how, long, where, whence, whither, how often ,how many times , how much , how far, what degree, how, in, what, way, why, whatever

  • when will you return?
  • how long will she stay here


9. Relatives Adverbs

relative Adverbs are where, when, and why,
a relative adverb is an adverb that introduces an adjective clause. EX-explicit, implicit .

  • this is the place where the king lived
  • do you know the time when he will come ?
  • this is where the king lived.
  • do you know when he will come.
