The Otis family buys canterville chase with full knowledge that a ghost haunts the place. The ghost makes its appearances but fails to frightened the Otises. Virginia, the fifteen year old girl, is sympathetic to the ghost.
She is unselfish and compassionate.
Lord canterville’ s ghost is tried because he has not slept for three hundred years. The pranks of the twins further torment him . The story is told with humour as well as compassion . Finally, the power of prayer triumphs and peace comes to canterville chase.

‘ Up From slavery’ is the life story of Booker T. Washington who was born a slave but Rose to be and educator, orator, author and a leading public figure in the USA.
After the civil war in 1865 the slaves gained freedom. There were ample reasons for the black and white races to hate one another. In this book the relations between the races are an important issue. Through born in poverty, Washington had a great foods to educate himself. He understood that the task before the community in post Emancipation age was to make themselves self-reliant and to live in dignity. Washington designed and executed through Tuskegee normal and industrial institute, the education that would make Negroes indispensable members of society.
His life work was gently appreciated. ‘ Up From slavery ‘ is the account of his rise from poverty to success.
