                SPEECH  WRITING

1. It is toss – up between class X boards & CCE. The board exams were once considered a rite of passage but with the introduction of the continuous and comprehensive Evaluation, (CCE), students have greater choice. Write a speech in about 150-200 words in favor of or against the topic giving reasons for your stand.

. The CCE allows students to study select portions of the year’s syllabus for the examination
. Stress free and comprehensive
. Encourages project work more than rote learning
. Board exams only a standard
. Cater to the competitive spirit provide any equal platform for students from all strata.

Ans. Dear friends

The need to make school education more comprehensive and stress free had been felt by CBSE for a long time. But the magnitude of diversity in India overcrowded classroom, of 1: 50, and dearth of good, creative teachers for the effective implementation of CCE is a utopian concept. Grading is based on, at times, 1 and 2 marks making it impossible for a teacher to justify the making scheme. The below average kid is happy for he is bracketed with the average child. Failure is a farfetched thought with nearly all qualifying for the next level.
Board Exams were a determining factor for quality education. Moreover, class tests, terminal exams, pre – boards also helped students study select portions. Thus there is nothing special in the CCE concept other than the introduction of project work which is a Sham. There are agencies which churn out projects for students. Moreover, thanks to the internet, copy paste tendency is on the rise. Agreed, stress levels close to exams increased, but some stress for a good performance is a must. The answer scripts were checked by outsiders thus there were no biases. For students the Board were a challenge as competition was with students from all over India. CCE has taken away this challenge. Thus in my opinion Board Exams are a better way of examining students.

Ans.

    Respected principal, Teachers and friends
Mobile phones, our buddies, face resistance not only in school but also at home. Their utility is unquestionable , but with some checks and control. Many of my friends, here, grudge the restrictions imposed on them in school. Dear friends, I agree mobile phones have become a part of our lives and we cannot survive without them. Nonetheless, they have also become a status symbol, each one of us vying for the latest in the market. A part from the extravagance of owning expensive phones, we also need to admit that with social media, games etc. They are a major distraction in school, not only for students but at times for teachers, also.
It has been that many students misuse this device for cheating in exams. The internet being accessible on these devices offers, pornography videos, images on a platter, polluting young minds. I am of the strong opinion that jammers should be installed in schools in order to make it impossible for students to access mobile phones, at least in school.
Yes, schools have no control outside the campus and we need to use them with a sence of responsibility. Resistance by schools and parents is mainly Because some of us do not behave responsibly. To conclude I request each one of you not to use mobile phones in school to avoid facing the ignominy of phones being confiscated by school authorities.

3. Power shortage has become a norm even in the metropolitan cities. One way to face this situation is by preventing the wastage of power. Write a speech in about 150-200 words on the importance of power in our daily life and how to save power at school and at home. Imagine that you are the principal of your school.

Ans. Dear students,
Today I am here to speak on a very important subject i. e., Power shortage in our country and how we can save power at school and at home.
Electric energy occupies the top grade in energy hierarchy. It finds innumerable uses in home, industry, agriculture and even in transport.
No one can undermine the importance of power in our daily life. For our day- to – day smooth living, we need an uninterrupted power supply. But, despite impressive growth in power generation, power shortage still continues and hits our every day existence badly.
We, at our level, in our small ways should try to save power. A small change to you lighting, gadgets and power utilisation of electricity can do a great deal to conserve the electricity. Replacing all the incandescent light bulbs with efficient CFL /LED bulbs can help in saving the energy. Heaters, coolers, air conditioner, water heaters, washing machines etc., are the gadgets that should be used very discreetly to save power. At school, you should see to it that all the fans, lights etc.,  are turned off while leaving your classroom and make others also aware of the need not to waste.
Sustaining electricity delivers the double purpose of helping stop the global warming and saving a lot of money . In our day – to – day- life we can use the natural lights whenever possible.
Today’s wastage can be tomorrow shortage. If you do not think of saving the power today, it can bring dark nights in your life tomorrow. Conservation is important and you can do it if you try. We all can actually play our part to save power in order to have a better and brighter tomorrow.

4. Write a speech to be given in morning Assembly on the topic ‘ what does Nationalism mean to you?’

Ans . Respected principal, teachers and dear             friends,
Nationalism has become a hot topic of discussion these days. Some intellectuals on TV debates, while defending the action of the President of JNU, laid emphasis on freedom of speech in a democracy, some said the word nationalism is not mentioned in the constitution of India but I fail to understand, how their defence can justify anti – India slogans? Nationalism is nothing but love for your country and the belief that your own country is better than others. It is this aspect which binds the citizens of a country together in a common thread. Without nationalism a nation is open to enemy forces for destabilising it. The feeling of nationalism has to be ingrained from childhood. Celebrating National festival, respecting the National flag, singing the National anthem are all aimed to promote a feeling of oneness and patriotism for the country. It is because of this that every country has its own national flag and song. The dictionary draws a thin line between the two. According to the dictionary patriotism is a healthy pride in your country that brings about feelings of loyalty and a desire to help other citizens while Nationalism is the belief that your country is superior, without question or doubt. Well, I feel that a feeling of Pride in your country comes from Nationalism and so nationalism without patriotism and patriotism without nationalism is meaningless.

    Jai Hind !

5. Write a speech to be given on 14th of August, in the morning Assembly of your school, in about 150-200 words, on ‘ The need to celebrate 15th August and 26th January in school rather than enjoying a holiday at home’.

Ans. Respected principal, teachers and dear         friends
India got independence after a struggle of centuries from foreign rule. The sacrifices made by our freedom fighters is a part of our history and heritage. These national festival are not meant to be enjoyed as holidays but to remind ourselves of their sacrifices and also to express our solidarity and love for our nation. It is an occasion to feel proud as Indians and to take a pledge to work for the progress and integrity of our motherland. When we students come together on these occasions, salute our National Flag, sing the National anthem then feeling of patriotism and National pride are evoked. The atmosphere makes all the difference.
Regarding these occasions as days for waking up late and pickniking mars their significance and purpose. These days have a specific purpose for every citizen of India. We must remember schools are where values are ingrained, where seeds of a future citizens and his/ her responsibility as a citizen are sown. And so it becomes all the more important to use every opportunity to mould us into responsible citizens of tomorrow. I ardently appeal to each one of you to be present in school at sharp 8 a. m. on 26 January and 15th August for national ceremony.

   Thanks
