 SPEECH WRITING

1. Write a speech in 150-200 words on ‘Benefits of early rising’ to be delivered by you in the morning assembly of your school. you are karuna / karan, Head Girl/Head Boy.

Ans. Respected Principal, teachers and dead friends

I, Karan, the head boy, present my views on the benefits of early rising. Dear friends, the belief, that early rising contributes to our health, wealth and wisdom was also taught by aristotle. I quote, in his words ‘It is well to be up by daybreak, for such habits contribute to health, wealth and wisdom’. Is it not true that most diseases are caused due to stress? The question is can we eliminate stress? My answer is yes, we can! By rising early stress can be eliminated. Late risers, amongst you, have to rush to school, and arrive school highly tensed due to the fear of being caught by school marshals. Similarly, working people have to face traffic snarls and reach their work place full of tention. Early risers have enough time and free from anxiety are more relaxed.

They also do not have to skip breakfast like their late riser counterparts and so have less craving for junk food. They are, therefore, relatively healthy. Friends, can there be any doubt that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and in a healthy body resides a healthy mind? Moreover, after a good night’s sleep, our mind is relaxed and refreshed thus, mark my words, it is also the best time to study and revise.

Early risers also have time for exercising thus they set the tome for the day. Exercising drives laziness away and fills one with energy and vitality. It controls our stress level, making it possible for us to be more effective and efficient. Moreover, those who leave exercising for the later part of the day most often find that they are left with no time for physical fitness. Thus, I conclude with the quote ‘Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy wealthy and wise’.

2. Write a speech in 150-200 words on  the topic, ‘Discipline shapes the future of a student’. It is to be delivered in the morning assembly. You are Karuna/Karan.

Ans. Respected Principal, teachers and dear friends

I, Karuna of Class XII, will speak on the importance of discipline in our lives. Friends, discipline is the backbone for growth and progress. Punctuality, coming in proper school uniforms, moving in a line towards the ground, listening Partiently to the speakers on the dias, all form part of discipline. In its absence you can well imagine the chaos in our lives. Nothing would move, with each one stepping on each others toes. Our lives would be like the poem we learnt in the kindergarten ‘Merry go round the Mulberry bush, Mulberry bush, Mulberry bush’. Dear friends, discipline is required in all areas of our life be it at home, in school or outside. We cannot function without it. It is a habit which we need to cultivate, keeping in mind its importance. It is discipline which make us adhere to rules thus regulating our lives for our benefit. For success in any field, be it sports or studies, discipline is a must. Thus, I conclude, discipline, shapes our future because remember there are just 24 hours in a day, remove the sleep time, time for meals, commuting, relaxation and we are left with just 8 to 10 hours. Judicious utilisation of this time makes us successful and only discipline can makes it possible.                   Thanks

3. write a speech to be given in Morning Assembly on the topic ‘ What does Nationalism mean to you?

Ans. Respected Principal, teachers and dear friends,

Nationalism has become a hot topic of discussion these days. Some intellectuals on TV debates, while defending the action of the President of JNU, laid emphasis on freedom of speech in a democracy, some said the word nationalism is not mentioned in the Constitution of India but I fail to understand how their defence can justify anti-India slogans? Nationalism is nothing but love for your country and the belief that your own country is better than others. It is this aspect which binds the citizens of a country together in a common thread. Without nationalism a nation is open to enemy forces for destabilising it. The feeling of nationalism has to be ingrained from childhood. Celebrating National festivals, respecting the National Flag, singing the National Anthem are all aimed to promote a feeling of oneness and patriotism for the country. It is because of this that every country has its own national flag and song. The dictionary draws a thin line between the two. According to the dictionary patriotism is a healthy pride in your country that brings about feelings of loyalty and a desire to help other citizens while Nationalism is the belief that your country is superior, without question or doubt. Well, I feel that a feeling of pride in your country comes from Nationalism and so nationalism without patriotism and patriotism without nationalism is meaningless.

4.Write a speech to be given on 14th August, in the morning assembly of your school, in about 150-200 words, ‘the need to celebrate 15th August and 26th January in school rather than enjoying a holiday at home’.

Ans. Respected principal, teachers and dear friends

India got independence after a struggle of centuries from foreign rule. The sacrifices made by our freedom fighters is a part of our history and heritage. The national festivals are not meant to be enjoyed as holidays but to remind ourselves of their sacrifices and also to express our solidarity and love for our Nation. It is an occasion to feel proud as Indians and to take a pledge to work for the progress and integrity of our motherland. When we students come together on these occasions, salute our National flag, sing the National anthem then feeling of patriotism and National pride are evoked. The atmosphere makes all the difference.

Regarding these occasions as days for waking up late and pic nicking mars their significance and purpose. These days have a specific purpose for every citizen of India. We must remember schools are where values are ingrained, where seeds of a future citizen and his/her responsibility as a citizen are sown. And   it becomes all the more important to use every opportunity to mould us into responsible citizens of tomorrow. I ardently appeal to each one of you to be present in school at sharp        8 a.m. on 26 January and 15th August for national ceremony.

  Thanks.
