Greetings in English [Conversation, Phrases, Sentences]
Greeting is usually the start of a conversation this can be when you meet a new person or someone you already know there are three types of greetings:-
– Formal greetings
– Neutral greetings
– Informal greetings
• Formal greetings: If you are on business trips or in the office you have to greet many important clients or customers for the first time you’ll have to use formal language. Small changes can make a big difference to your formal language so be careful.
• Neutral greetings: ‘Neutral’ means neither formal nor informal If you are at work there are people who work with you of the same age or in the same department you don’t need to be very formal, but you also wouldn’t want to sound too casual. you can use neutral greetings.
• Informal greetings: You have to greet people at gatherings with friends or family or friends and friends and families of friends, neighbours, neighbour family, even people that you bump into the lift you’ll have to use informal language.
• Formal greetings
– Hello
(this is the most common way to greet someone in all situations by starting to say hello)
– Good morning.
– Good afternoon
– Good evening
(We use these expressions depending on the time of day)
– It’s nice to meet you?
– It’s a pleasure to meet you.
– It’s lovely to meet you
(When we meet someone for the first time we use this expression)
– How are you?
– How do you do?
– How are you today?
(Asking how are you? is normal adding today sounds more formal)
– Very well thankyou
– Very nice to meet you.
(Adding very makes it sound much more formal.)
– and yourself?
– And your name is…?
(This is more formal than asking and you?)

How are you is much common Instead of how are you you can use:-
– How are you doing?
– How have you been?
– How’s it going?
– How goes?
– How’s everything?
– How’s life?
– hey how are you doing?
If you haven’t seen someone in a very long time you can use:-
– Long time no see!
– It’s been a while!
– It’s been a long time!
– I haven’t seen you in a long time!
When you meet someone new for the first time you can use:-
– Hi/Hello/Hey
– Nice to meet you
– Nice to see you
– Good to see you
If you want to ask is everything alright? you can use:-
– Everything okay?
– All good?
– You doing okay?
– How’s your day?
– How’s your day going?
– Where have you been up to?
– What have you been up to?
– What’s new?
– What’s going on?
– What’s happening?
– What’s up?
(What’s up means what is new with you you can answer this by saying not much same old)
– Everything alright?

You have to practise first how to greet someone in English so you can make new friends and make good bonds with them and generally feel more positive while interacting with new people it improves your confidence level and English speaking skills.
