There are two main ways of reporting the words of speaker
1. Direct speech
2. Indirect speech
What is direct speech?
The actual word of speaker are quoted as it is.

Examples :
1. I said to him , ” which book on grammar Have you read? “
2. He said to me, ” where were you going last night? “
3. I said to him, ” why did you not go to your village to see your father? “

6. Mohan said to the servant, ” Did anybody come to see me? “
What is indirect speech?
Actual words of the speaker are transformed
Said or written in a simple language.
Why do we indirect speech ?
Avoid confusion while using direct speech while reporting
Examples :
1. I asked him which book on grammar he had read.
2. She asked me where I had been going the night before.
3. I asked her why she had not gone to his village to see his father.
4. He asked me whether I would accompany him to his house.
5. The Teacher asked the boys if they had brought their books with him.
6. Mohan acquired of the servant whether anybody had come to see him.
