WHAT IS ADJECTIVES ?
An adjectives modifies or gives more information about a noun or pronoun.
Adjectives tell about quality, quantity, number, or order of the noun that it describes.
For Example:-
Good, black, many, few, small, brave etc.
Black car./ There is a black car.
Good boy./ He is a good boy
Many bikes./ There are many bikes.
Few boys./ There are few boys.
Small car./ It is a small car.
Brave boy./ he is a brave boy.
TYPES OF ADJECTIVES
There Are Eight Types Of Adjectives.
1. Adjective of quality
2. Adjective of quantity
3. Adjective of number
4. Demonstrative Adjective
5. Interrogative Adjective
6. Distributive Adjective
7. Proper Adjective
8. Possessive Adjective
1. ADJECTIVE OF QUALITY
The words that describes the quality of noun or pronoun are known as adjective of quality.
For Example:-
clever, hungry, good, black, etc.
Sentences
He is a clever boy
I saw a hungry dog.
This is a heavy box
She is a smart girl
2. ADJECTIVE OF QUANTITY
The words which describes the quantity ( approximate quantity ) of nouns or pronouns are known as adjectives of quantity.
For Example:-
Some, little, whole, double, few, any, all, half etc.
Sentences
I don’t have much time
I have little faith in you.
She has taken half cup of milk.
He had lost all his health.
3. ADJECTIVES OF NUMBER
The word which express the exact number of nouns or pronouns and their position or place in certain order.
For Example:-
One or first, two or second, three or third, so on.. Each, no, several, some etc.
Sentences
A week has seven days.
There are nine persons in a group.
Every poor needs job.
There are no stories in this book.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ADJECTIVE OF QUANTITY AND ADJECTIVE OF NUMBER.
The difference between Adjective of number and Adjectives of quantity is that indefinite numeral adjectives ( some, many, few etc. ) are used with countable nouns whereas adjectives of quantity ( some, few, many etc. ) are used with uncountable nouns.
Example:-
I drank some water }Adjective of quantity
Some people standing there. } Adjective of number
4. DEMONSTRATIVE ADJECTIVE
Words that are used to point out specific person or specific things are called demonstrative adjective.
For Example:-
This, That, These, Those, Latter, Former, Such etc.
Sentences
I hate such things.
The former presentation of lecture was good.
The latter option will cost us a lot.
DIFFERNCE BETWEEN DEMONSTRATIVE ADJECTIVE AND DEMONSTRATIVE PRONOUN
DEMONSTRATIVE ADJECTIVE:- Demonstrative adjective modifies the noun and is always followed by the noun.
Example:- This car is expensive.
DEMONSTRATIVE PRONOUN:- Demonstrative pronoun takes the place of noun phrase
Example:- This is my car.
5. INTERROGATIVE ADJECTIVE
Words that are used with nouns to ask questions are called Interrogative adjective.
Sentences
What manner of man is he?
Whose books are these?
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN INTERROGATIVE ADJECTIVES AND INTERROGATIVES PRONOUN.
Interrogative Adjective:- Interrogative adjectives asks a question and describes a noun.
Example:- Which color looks better?
Interrogative Pronoun:- Interrogative pronoun asks a question, but stands alone ( means does not describe a noun )
Example:- Which should I but you on birthday?
6. DISTRIBUTIVE ADJECTIVES
A word used to refer to each and every person or thing is called distributives adjectives.
For Example:-
Each, Every, Either, Any, one, both, etc.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DISTRIBUTIVE ADJECTIVES AND DISTRIBUTIVES PRONOUN
Distributive adjective:- Distributive adjective modifies a noun or pronoun. ( There is always a noun next to the distributive adjective.
Example:- Each man was a given a pen.
Distributive pronoun:- Distributive pronoun used as a subject or object. ( There is never a noun next to the distributive pronoun. )
Example:- Each of us will get a pen.
7. PROPER ADJECTIVE
Proper adjective originate from Proper noun and like proper noun, proper adjective always begins with a capital letter.
For Example:-
Italian, Russian, Indian, etc.
Sentences
She is an Indian person.
Chinese noodles is tasty.
8. POSSESSIVE ADJECTIVES
Possessive adjectives shows something belong to somebody.
For Example:- My, Your, Its, Her, His, Their, etc.
Sentences.
My book is on the table.
I think you forgot your purse.
Her brother is very handsome.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN POSSESSIVE ADJECTIVE AND POSSESSIVE PRONOUN
Possessive Adjective:- Possessive adjective is used to show ownership and comes before a noun in the sentence.
Example:- My book is on the table.
Possessive Pronoun:- Possessive pronoun is used to show ownership but it doesn’t come before noun. It can also be used to replace noun.
Example:- This phone is yours.
