A group of 50 students from Islamabad visited our school as a part of a cultural exchange program on the 20th of October. The entrance was prepared by our Art teacher who literally recreated the wagah Border at the school gate. The group was welcomed with flowers and then breakfast was served to them in the school cafeteria. After that a short cultural program of 45 minutes was organized in the auditorium. The head boy gave a welcome address and highlighted the similarity in our cultures. He also shared his experience of their visit to Islamabad. Their hospitality and the warmth had left an indelible mark on the students from India. He also recounted his meeting with an old lady whose real sister was married to an Indian Muslim who lives in Delhi’s, Chandni chowk. He stressed on the need to organize more such interactions between the youth of both the nations for a better understanding and eliminating the seeds of suspicion down by the politician. The welcome was followed by dances from Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. It was actually a peep into Indian culture. The group was then presented with artefacts from Nagaland. The program ended with the group leader of the Pakistan Team thanking the students and the school for a warm welcome and the excellent arrangements made for their stay and sightseeing in Delhi.

A workshop on creative writing was conducted by scholastic India, on 21st February, Monday, at the activity centre of Neeraj block. The purpose of the workshop was to improve writing skills of students. Ms Anupriya, CBSE expert, Mr Mishra, author of English text books , Mrs Ramchandran, from scholastic India, enlightened the students on creative writing.
The workshop commenced with the welcome address by the principal. It was followed by with ice breaking session, in which each student had to express briefly the qualities of the students sitting next to him. The introductory session began with an address by Ms Anupriya. She apprised the students about the expectations of the examiner in a creative writing passage. The division of marks was also discussed. The second session was conducted by Mr Mitra. Each student had to write in just 80 words describing an alien from outer space. The papers were then picked up at random and handed over to students for grading. All those marked ‘O’ were read out and discussed. He then gave some enlightening tips on creative writing. Mrs Ramachandran’ – s session was the best as she showed a painting of abstract modern art and asked each student to interpret it. Funny interpretations, by some, made us all laugh. She concluded by saying that creativity lies in bring original and thinking out of the box.
The workshop ended with the Head of the English Department, of our school moving the vote of thanks.
3. As part of an Entrepreneurship project the commerce students of your school recently launched a product called Oatlicious. They not only set up a company to produce the product but also designed its advertising and marketing strategy. The commerce students of Graham public school launched a product ‘ Oatlicious ‘ , an Entrepreneurship project, on the 20th of September, 20…….., With a lot of fanfare. The function to launch the product was organized at the Auditorium of commercial centre. Mr Ratan Tata, the icon of India industry graced the occasion as the chief guest. CEO’s of renowned advertising agencies were also invited.
The launch began with the Principal’s address. In her 10 minutes address she highlighted the need for out of the box thinking and inculcating the spirit of entrepreneurship in the youth. It was followed by a power point presentation by a group of five students specifying the speciality and uniqueness of the product ‘Oatlicious’. The art students gave a presentation on the packaging designed by them. The art work was appreciated by one and all. The auditorium was filled with the sound of claps aplauding the beautifully designed packet. A group of students then made a presentation on the strategy for advertising and marketing of the product.
‘Oatlicious’ was then launched by Sri Ratan Tata. He applauded the efforts of the team and also offered to fund the venture. The launch ended with a vote of thanks by the HOD commerce Department. All the students stood up as an expression of their gratitude to the teacher, the facilator, who was the inspiration behind the indigenous venture.
4. Write a report on the prize Distribution ceremony of the senior wing of your school in about 150-200 words for your school magazine.
Ans. The prize Distribution ceremony of the senior school was organized on the 5th of May in the school Auditorium. The Education Minister of Delhi graced the occasion as the chief Guest. The Mayor of the area was the Guest of Honor. The prize distribution ceremony started at 6 p. m . The parents of the awardees were seated in a designated area. They had been given bands to put on as a mark of distinction. The proud parents were beaming with joy at the achievement of their wards. The ceremony started with a welcome address by the principal and congratulating the awardees and their parents. Thereafter, the school choir group sang a beautiful prayer, seeking the blessing of the Almighty for the achievers and their parents. The prayer was written by the cultural capital of the school which was composed by the music teacher. The school orchestra comprising of 100 students mesmerized the audience. The hall was filled with thunderous ovation for the performers. The prize distribution began with the class vi achievers. The Education Minister in his speech congratulated the achievers and emphasized the need for parents and school to discover the innate talent in each child and encourage him / her to excel in it. The ceremony ended with a vote of thanks by the vice principal.
5. Write a Newspaper report on a building which collapsed in Old Delhi, injuring several people and killing 4, in about 150-200 words.
30 injured and 4 killed as a building collapses in Old Delhi
Ans. 20th June , Chandni chowk. 4 people were killed and 30 injured when an old 2 storey building collapses in Chandni chowk, in the wee morning hours. The injured were rushed to the nearest hospital. It is believed that there are more trapped under the rubble. The fire department along with the help of the residents are removing the rubble to rescue the victims. Four persons including two children have so far been rescued from under the rubble by the brave men of the Fire Bridge who were given first aid immediately. It created a chaotic situation which became difficult to manage. The residents in the adjoining buildings have been made to evacuate the cordoned area. The senior officers have rushed to the area to supervise the rescue operations. The cause for the collapse is being investigated. According to some survivors, the apartments being built next to the collapsed building caused several cracks in the walls. In spite of complaints to the concerned department and repeated requests to the builder, no action was taken, resulting in the mishap. The builder is absconding.
